A Cross-cutting Carbon + GHG Initiative

Lynker partners with federal, state and local governments; academia, industry, non-profits, and local communities to support local to global monitoring, measurements, reporting and verification of GHG emissions and carbon. Implemented with an equity, justice, resilience and sustainability-centered approach, our partnerships will advance the development of local to internationally impactful climate change solutions, such as Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), Nature Based Solutions (NBSs) and Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) strategies and technologies.

Lynker Current Projects

Lynker currently manages a $40 million Climate Smart Commodities grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture with the goal to fight climate change and rebuild health, resilience, and abundance in agricultural landscapes and communities throughout Hawai’.

In 2023, Lynker established a cross-cutting Carbon, GHG and Sustainability Initiative or Porfolio, demonstrating our commitment to grow and expand our capacity to provide technical and technological solutions, scientific support and logistical services for carbon and greenhouse gas GHG) management, measurements, monitoring, reporting, and verification (MMRV or MRV).

GHG Emissions

Our environment-based contracting with Federal agencies, such as NOAA, has increased our awareness of our environment and the impacts of climate change. In 2022, Lynker initiated tracking of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions based on our energy consumption. Lynker’s GHG reporting is based on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Initiative (GHG Protocol) and facilitated by the World Resources Institute guide: Working 9 to 5 0n Climate Change. The table on the right presents Lynker’s 2022 GHG Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions in metric tons of CO2.

*It is important to note that during 2022, Lynker avoided 1.29 metric tons of CO2 by relocating one of its facilities to a net-zero building generating 15mWh/yr of solar based power.

Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV)

Successful MMRV requires the development, deployment, maintenance, and integration of in-situ and remotely sensed technologies and infrastructure with coverage across a variety of spatial and temporal resolutions. The expansion of both human-driven and uncrewed instruments/tools/platform technologies will be essential for research and operations in all the related sectors. Lynker has already demonstrated capabilities with such technologies. Additionally, in terms of GHG MRV or MMRV for climate solutions, we are working on informing and supporting national and international science priorities in partnership with multidisciplinary community scientists and private sector partners.

Collaborations

Lynker recently established a cross-cutting Carbon and GHG Initiative with a goal to address, connect and support the GHG information management and MMRV needs of entities that are currently receiving limited federal government engagement, while connecting them with those that are – acting as a connector and providing open and inclusive collaborative platforms and opportunities. We are interested in supporting and enhancing collaborations with external entities of all sizes, especially small businesses that are working closely with frontline communities and technical experts conducting measurements, modeling and assimilation of environmental information, to advance U.S. greenhouse gas monitoring and information capabilities and global impacts.
